About Our Lakes

SJWD’s lakes and ponds are beautiful, recreational assets that benefit Spartanburg County and the surrounding area.  SJWD is proud to share each with the public for leisurely enjoyment but their primary long-term purpose is for raw water supply to meet the water service demands of our growing communities.  As such, SJWD has policies and regulations in place to balance the various needs.   To learn more about these policies, click here.

Additionally, SJWD employs Lake Wardens to manage the lakes and surrounding properties as well as assist the public while enjoying the lakes.  Their office is located at 200 Lyman Lodge Road.

Lake Cooley – Lake Cooley is a 330 acre, 1.7 billion gallon reservoir located on Jordan Creek.  The lake feeds into the North Tyger River upstream of the North Tyger Reservoir located on Highway 29 in Wellford, SC.

SJWD owns the Lake Cooley Park located at 100 Cooley Dock Road but it is operated by Spartanburg County Parks Department.  The park includes a dual access boat ramp, a handicap accessable dock and kayak launch, a fishing pier, playground, two restroom facilities,  and parking for approximately 50 vehicles and trailers.  There are other seasonal recreational activies offered and four (4) picnic shelters that are available for rent, to inquire about renting the shelters or get more information on the acitivites offered, please visit the Spartanburg County Parks website:

Lyman Lake – Lyman Lake is a 350 acre, 1.4 billion gallon reservoir located on the Middle Tyger River.  The lake serves as the primary raw water source for SJWD.

Lyman Lake Park, is loacted at 200 Lyman Lodge Road.  The facilites at this location include a public fishing pier, a handicap accessible dual access boat ramp, and parking for approximately 50 vehicles and trailers. Also, located at this location is the Lyman Lake Lodge  which can be rented by the public.  To rent the facility, please contact SJWD’s customer service at 864-439-4423.
