Blotchy Bass Syndrome at Lyman Lake
By: SJWD | 0 Comment
April 9, 2025 – On Tuesday, April 8th, SJWD Water District received a report of a fish in Lyman Lake presenting symptoms associated with Blotchy Bass Syndrome.
Blotchy Bass Syndrome is linked to a family of viruses that cause hyperpigmentation on the skin, fins, and/or mouths of freshwater bass species. The virus is spread through skin-to-skin contact between fish. It is important to note that this virus poses no threat to humans and does not affect nor is caused by the water quality in Lyman Lake.
SJWD Water District will continue to monitor the situation over the next several months. We encourage anyone fishing on Lyman Lake to report all fish that present the symptoms of Blotchy Bass Syndrome to warden@sjwd.com. Please include a photo along with the location of where the fish was spotted. We appreciate your help!
