Payment Policies

D4R5871

All bills are due upon receipt and considered late after the due date posted on the bill. These policies have been developed for the financial protection of all our customers and are intended to encourage timely payment. SJWD encourages customers to contact us prior to the bill due date to make necessary payment arrangements.

Late Payments

A penalty will be applied to unpaid balances after the due date posted on the bill.

Delinquent Accounts

Any balance carrying over from the previous month’s bill is considered past due and must be paid in full by the due date posted on the current month’s bill. Accounts remaining unpaid are subject to a delinquent fee and service disconnection.

Service Disconnection

Any account that remains unpaid after a second due date has passed is considered delinquent and will be scheduled for immediate service disconnection. A delinquent fee will be assessed to the account. No further notice will be sent. All charges, including penalties and fees, will be collected before service is restored. An additional deposit may be required. Personal checks will not be accepted as payment for service restoration. Service will be restored during the business hours of 7:15AM-5:15PM Monday-Thursday (excluding holidays). Service restoration requested after 4 p.m. will be scheduled the following business day.

Returned Checks

Customers will be charged a fee for returned checks. In order to avoid service termination, payment must be made by cash, money order or credit card within five business days of returned check notification. If two checks are returned within a six-month period, cash, money order or credit card will be required for all future payments.

Final Payment

A final bill will be mailed within five days after an account is closed. Payment is due upon receipt. Any unpaid balance will be submitted to the S.C. Department of Revenue for collection in accordance with the South Carolina Setoff Debt Collection Act.

Leak Adjustments

SJWD understands there can be substantial increases in your water bill due to leaks in your service line or faulty plumbing/fixtures. If you feel you have an unusually high bill due to a leak, please contact our Customer Service Department to discuss the options available to you.
